Two Americans, a Swiss and a Dutch were shot dead Sunday in Danghara County, southeast of Dushanbe capital.
Three other tourists were also injured.
This is the first time the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an attack on Tajikistan, though it did not offer evidence of its claims.
Two people suspected of involvement in the attack were killed by Tajik authorities in an operation, while four others were arrested.
