President Donald Trump threatened to apply sanctions on Turkey if they do not release the pastor, but it seems Erdogan has not been bothered at all.
We will not take any step back, even if we face sanctions. The United States must not forget that it is those who will lose a sincere partner”, Erdogan told Haberturk.
After 21 months in prison, a court in Turkey handed over to house arrest pastor Brunson, who is accused of supporting the group Ankara accuses of punching the failed state in 2016.
If the charges against the pastor, who has served in Turkey for more than two decades, are proven, then Brunson risks facing a 35-year prison sentence.
Diplomats are working to resolve the tense dispute, and on Saturday US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo discussed the pastor's status with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
