Civil society expresses concern for election legislation

18 civil society organisations have come out today with a joint declaration in which they have voiced concern for election legislation. It has been seven years since election reform began and it has never been completed and there is no substantial change in this direction. In order to establish citizens' representation and increase the quality of the elected, with the aim of restoring and sustainable and rapid consolidation of institutions, in order to ensure more functionality of the political system, transparency and accountability of political subjects and easier management of the election process, civil society organisations invite political subjects and the Kosovo Assembly to:
They put priority on the issue of electoral reform that addresses the problems observed in past election processes and base work on analysis and research.
They ensure that electoral legislation is the reflection of all interest groups, guaranteeing the inclusion and respect of the will of all citizens regardless of their gender or ethnic affiliation.
They take into account recommendations from civil society organisations and from the missions of election observers of local and international organisations.
Civil society organisations express willingness to contribute to the process of addressing electoral legislation shortcomings with their expertise to ensure free and fair elections in the future.
