The latest study suggests that damage being done to biodiversity in tropical countries may be worse than expected if we do not take control of environmental problems there.
Although the tropics cover only about 40 percent of the earth's surface, they carry 78 percent of all plant and animal species, including amphibites, ground mammals, fish, ants, and plants, reported “DW” Transmission Periscope.
And these tropical regions are very important to birds - 91 percent of the entire territory in which they live.
Most of these tropical species are found nowhere else, and researchers estimate that at least 150,000 species are still unknown to science.
Deforestation, pollution, overfishing, supernaturality, invasive species, and ultimately global warming are the cause of tropical biodiversity.
Coral reefs, for example, provide fish sources for 275 million people living within their 20 miles [30 km], while forests provide timber and other products.
