Agim Bahtiri speaks with tones of war: There will be destruction as long as Mitrovica lives, battle will begin here

Whenever we talk about the possibility of partitioning Kosovo, or the eventual exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia, it means that Mitrovica will suffer the most, so citizens' discontent and concern over ominous warnings of such an opportunity has increased overlap.

So said today in Mitrovica, during the table organised by President Agim Bahtiri with political leaders and representatives of civil society, which on the subject had recent political developments in the country, specifically the tendency to partition Kosovo or exchange territories.

They clearly expressed themselves against the idea of Kosovo's possible division, or exchange of territories.

Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri has ordered all those who are thinking of betraying the country, that there will be no fragmentation of land until Mitrovica is alive.

According to him, party interests should be overcome when it comes to the country, while warning that in case of need, the battle will begin right in Mitrovica and end in Pristina.

This event that I have called today is a clear message to all those who think about betraying this country, as if they have committed treason. And the obvious message is that we Mitrovica will be the cornerstone of those important events... There will be no landbreaking until Mitrovica is alive. The battle will begin here and end in Pristina. Remember, I don't care about political parties at all, even where I'm the vice president. I care about the interest of my people... I know I'm in government, I know I have four ministries, but I don't know about the ministry, nor about the government, when it's about the land of the Albanian nation and people”, Bahtiri said.

Kosovo Parliament MP from Vetevendosje's ranks, Adem Miclovci, has indicated that Kosovo has made huge mistakes from the very beginning.

He explained that since Kosovo is the parliamentary Republic, the president has no authority to negotiate on its behalf, so that this will stop citizens.

We've made very big mistakes since the beginning. We've been wrong since the demobilization. The KLA, the constitutional framework when we accepted it, the Ahtisaari package, and so on ... The European Parliament, Brussels, has demanded that there be talks between the presidents without asking us at all. But Kosovo is the parliamentary Republic, it is not the presidential Republic. With us, the president has no intelligence to hold any talks on behalf of Kosovo, and this we will stop”, Miklovci stressed.

Safet Kamberi, chairman of the LDK in Mitrovica, said the persons who represented Kosovo at the Brussels meeting have no authority, legitimacy and neither citizens' support for that.

“The LDK estimates that the leaders of current institutions and other displaced individuals in power for political change who were part of the meeting in Brussels, have no authority, legitimacy or popular support to represent the Republic of Kosovo in dialogue with Serbia. The LDK considers that this group of people who only connect the ruling remnant and who do not represent more than 40 percent of citizens do not honor the country on behalf of the citizens of Kosovo, having no support for the Republic of Kosovo's Assembly... The LDK supports the process of dialogue mediated by the EU and the US for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. This process can be brought forward only by legitimate institutions derived from new free and democratic elections, as well as a broad institutional, political and social consensus”, Kamberi said.

Halit Barani, chairman of KMLDNJ in Mitrovica, has mentioned earlier compromises when the drills on the Ibër Bridge were placed, which he said were planned at various meetings, while the goal was to divide.

“Compromses have been made earlier, starting on June 26, 1999, when the main bridge over Iber has been placed in noorsy wires, here has been Hashim Thaci ... It is known that the thornful wires were placed by the French army, and that it was much earlier planned on various meetings of the division of Mitrovica, respectively, Kosovo. This is no doubt”, he said.

On the other hand, Alban Fazliu, municipal adviser from the PDK ranks, has called the organisation of this table on the part of Chairman Bahtiri, because, as he said, by dealing with big themes, the mayor leaves his subjects and responsibilities to citizens.

He said that in the discussions of the president, prime minister or prime minister, no separation has ever been mentioned, but rather their discussions have been very clear, saying there will be no compromise as to the exchange of territories.

I see the mayor's job as biased, because reports have come out that it's not working well, and now you're going to make a big topic like the mayor used to do, as in the past four years, that with big themes you're leaving the subject and responsibilities as mayor.
