Modern slavery is a complicated and often hidden crime that crosses borders, sectors, and jurisdictions. The Walk Free Foundation, the report's compiler with Gallup, believes a strong and comprehensive approach is needed to end modern slavery. This includes building a powerful knowledge base, promoting legislative changes in key countries and exploiting the power of businesses. Through a combination of direct implementation, community engagement at the base, and working in partnership with businesses, academics, NGOs and governments worldwide; The Walk Free Foundation believes it can end modern slavery.
While to the problem addressed by the Foundation, the Albanian government has responded:
Well, overseers of forms of slavery have identified people who are part of such schemes and are continuing with support to make it possible to exit this scheme.
- Criminal justice mechanisms function effectively to prevent modern slavery
Co-ordination takes place at national and regional level
Risk factors, such as attitudes, social systems, and institutions that enable modern slavery, have been addressed
Government and business have banned supply of goods and services produced by forced labour
The Walker Free Foundation is promoting all major global economies to issue laws to ensure that pro-active steps are taken to remove modern slavery from their supply chains. The Global Slave Index of the Walk Free Foundation has conducted leading global research to ensure the size and scale of modern slavery, as well as to assess domestic vulnerability and government responses. Along with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Wal Free Foundation created the Joint Global Modern Slave Values.
The Global Slave Index covers 167 states. In addition to local level data on modern slavery, the Global Slave Index 2018 includes studies on specific countries. Each country study includes data on forced labour risks as well as information on statements produced under the Modern Slave Act. Studies end with a series of policy recommendations. /Monitor
