Turkey's Interior Ministry announces that presidential and parliamentary elections are being held without problems, in calm atmosphere and under maximum security measures.
The ministry announced that all polling sites were opened at 8:00 this morning, according to local time, and that no major incidents have been recorded so far.
531,007 members of security forces are caring for the election process.
“For security measures during the elections are engaged 264,526 police officers, 195,695 members of the gendarmerie, 50.793 guards and 19,993 volunteer guards”, AA writes in the statement.
The presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey began this morning at 0800 local times, while Turkish citizens by 5 o'clock will have the opportunity to elect president and MPs in the assembly.
According to election statistics published by the High Election Commission, over 56 million voters will exploit their right to 180 thousand ballot boxes.
