Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has handed over to EU authorities today the correspondence with European diplomacy chief Federica Moghrini, with whom the annual mandate of the EU is completed EULEX.
The letter has been accepted by PPSM Civil Operations Commander Kenneth Dean, as well as EULEX chief Alexander Papadopoulos.
The letter's contents have been negotiated between the Kosovo side and the EU's, and envisions the outcome of the executive mandate and the reduction of EULEX's role in the monitoring and advisory role in the mission's completion phase.
“has been a valid decade for Kosovo”, President Thaci said at this meeting, adding that Kosovo's “institutions have benefited greatly from co-operation with EULEX”.
Thanks to this co-operation, today we have built local capacities to take full responsibility in the rule of law sector. E ULEX has been a successful mission, and from this experience the EU can also learn important lessons for similar missions in the future”, Thaci said.
The mandate of EULEX's mission expires on June 15th 2018, while the next mission will be focused on closing the full transfer of competencies to Kosovo's organs, as well as closing the mission.
