Same as these traditional rituals, early marriages are still practiced in Kosovo.
Even two years ago, it became just one reason why the president had canceled his visit for the first child born in the first minutes of 2015.
That's because the baby's mother was married when she was only 16.
But, Luljeta Demoli from the Kosovar Centre for Gender Studies, says early marriages have become a phenomenon.
It explains some of the reasons for such marriages. Demolli says Kosovo leads with the number of cases of early marriages.
But it criticises institutions that they are not working enough in this direction. According to data, the Roma community leads with the number of early marriages.
Gazmend Qyqalla, a member of the Roma community, says that early marriages take place, within the organisation “The ideas Partnership”, hold discussions on its consequences.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirms that in the early part of 2018 alone, a total of 27 marriages took place.
And in the meantime, this number will likely increase, given that summer is considered the wedding season.
Meanwhile, in 2015, the number of early marriages in 2016, 74 had been married under 18 years of age, and in 2017 58. /t7
