Minister Gashi in Brussels, refugee crisis discussed

Interior Affairs Minister Bejtush Gashi is standing on visit to Brussels, where he attended the meeting called by Commissioner for Migration, State and Internal Affairs Dimitris Avramopolis.
The meeting is held by the interior affairs ministers of the Western Balkan states.
The meeting discussed recent immigration developments, border management co-operation, irregular migration, security risks, as well as priorities of the Western Balkans strategy in these areas from the European Union's perspective.
As the Interior Ministry reports, Minister Gashi stressed that in recent years, the Republic of Kosovo has not been directly affected by the refugee crisis, but still the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other state institutions have taken measures in case of any possible refugee waves.
During his speech to Minister Gashi on behalf of the Government of the Republic, he confirmed the readiness to promote and support co-operation with all countries in the Western Balkan region and, most of all European and international mechanisms, in terms of security issues, border management and possible migration movements in the region.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo will support any initiative that serves to overcome these challenges the region and the world”, Minister Gashi stressed.
Also under the meeting, participants used the opportunity to discuss other security issues, with particular focus on the joint fight against terrorism, violent extremism, cyber crime and organised crime.
After the end of the official meeting, Dimitris Avramopouls, has been hosting the Republika Kosovo delegation at a separate meeting, with what's being highly regarded as work and the current commitment of the Republic of Kosovo.
The interior ministers of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia attended the meeting. The meeting was also the current president of the European Council from Bulgaria, as well as future European Council President from Austria, then EC Security Affairs member Julian King, as well as Executive Director for European Borders Fabrice Leggeri.
