US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has protected the children of immigrants who are separated from their parents on the American border.
In an interview given for an American radio, prosecutor Sessions has said authorities prefer to keep children close to their parents but that this has often been impossible.
The problem of separating children from their parents at the borders has sparked a storm of criticism in America.
On Tuesday, the United Nations has called for immediate “to stop divisions”.
When the State Prosecutor was asked if the measure was necessary, he claimed that it is about necessary measures to take for security reasons.
According to him, parents of immigrant children who have had prison sentences are divided.
It's not my intention to separate children from their parents, but I think it's very clear that the legitimacy of those people who come illegally across the borders doesn't allow us to leave them together for now”, the prosecutor said, reports the BBC.
He has warned that all those who attempt to cross the border illegally and are of age are in danger of prison and will be separated from their children sent out for shelter.
