Mariano Rajoy was dismissed today from the position of prime minister of Spain, with a no-confidence motion initiated by the Socialist Party, writes Periscopi.
Rajoy served as prime minister of Spain since 2011, while earlier he had also served as minister and leader of the opposition. The first term as prime minister was covered with the severe economic crisis that engulfed Spain, and with unemployment reaching 27%.
However, Rajoy did a good job after the 2015 elections, with unemployment dropping sharply and with his economy and great growth.
Rajoy has grown up in the region called Galicia in northern Spain. He studied law at the University of Santiago de Compostela, at which he graduated in 1878. His career in politics, he had entered at age 26, while now he has 63.
He has been minister of public administration, education and culture, interior minister, and in 2003, he took over the party leadership. Rajoy as leader of the party failed to win the election, and remained long as the opinion leader.
Rajoy is a Spanish conservative, belonging to the Roman Catholic religion, and has expressed opposition to the right to abortion and marriage of the same sex.
Rajoy has expressed conviction that immigrants in Spain should be allowed, and that asylum would be offered to them. He had even criticised the Hungarian government, which had expelled immigrants from her country.
Rajoy was a strong supporter of the bull struggle, saying it was a tradition that had deep roots in Spanish history. /Periscopi
