The United States of America (SHBA) has been withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council, calling it a “plug for political bias”, which targets only Israel in particular, while ignoring atrocities in other countries.
American Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has said this Geneva-based institution is a mockery of human rights. Formed in 2006, this council has been criticised for allowing members to become states with disturbing data on respect for human rights, reports the BBC, Kosovo Presses.
Haley announced this decision at a joint conference with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who called the council “the weak human rights defender”.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, through an announcement, has responded to the US departure, saying he would prefer America to stay on the council.
