Since 2011, Mariano Rajoy was prime minister of the government. Then, a corruption scandal had exposed him: On June 1st, most MPs in Madrid voted for a no-confidence motion against the prime minister. Rajoy had to leave.
Almost three weeks ago his departure occurred. But 63-year-old already has a new job. Or better to say it's back to the old profession. Before dozens of journalists and viewers singing “Presidents, president”, he said, “I have not practiced this profession for a long time, but I am not nervous” To devote himself to politics, Rajoy 28 years ago had left Santa Paula as leader of the land register.
Socialist leader Pedro Sánchez is now ruling Spain with a minority government.
Asked by journalists what advice he could give his followers, Rajoy said: “No one, life goes on and PP is a big party”.
The PP will elect its new chairman at an extraordinary party congress in Madrid on 20 July and 21 July.
Rajoy followers are two women: PP Secretary General and former Defence Secretary Marcía Dolores de Coscidal and former Deputy Chairman-in-chief of Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría./Periscopi/
