In a specific environment like Kosovo, EULEX has not been able to function fully independent of political influences, German analyst Bodo Weber said in an interview given “Koha Ditore<1>.
To fulfill its mandate, according to Weber, EULEX has had to co-operate with politicians, but at the same time it is supposed to follow them for the corrupting circumstances in which they may be involved.
Weber, an expert on the region at “The Council for Democratic Policy” (DPC) with headquarters in Berlin, thinks this has complicated the situation, even though EULEX has had the support of most Kosovo citizens to pursue the large <x3weights>.
During the 10 years of presence in Kosovo, according to Weber, EULEX has accompanied numerous contradictions, which have resulted from the lack of a broader consensus about the presence of the biggest mission the European Union has ever had.
