The European Union is ready to negotiate with the United States in resolving trade disputes, following its decision to impose tariffs on European metals, European Union Trade Commissioner Ceceria Malmstrom has said.
Describing US tariffs <x0 illegal>” and contrary to World Health Organisation rules, Malmstrom has said there is no other option than taking revenge measures to protect European interests.
We're always open to talk to the US. The entire EU is based on the idea of negotiating”, it is expressed in a seminar.
The European Union will launch a 25 per cent tariff application in American products on Friday, in response to US tariffs placed on European steel and aluminum, Malmstrom has said.
After setting these tariffs, the United States has threatened China with other measures worth $200 billion in trade, escalating conflict that has raised concerns about global war.
During her visit to New Zealand, she has discussed free trade agreements, calling for co-operation and respect of the trade system.
The first round of negotiations on reaching any free trade agreement between the European Union and New Zealand will be held in Brussels from 16 July to 20 July.
