Croatia will defend its national interests if some EU member states will return immigrants to countries where they have entered Union.
So Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Brussels in a mini-sam of EU countries, where migration problems were discussed.
This is one of the major legal issues in reviewing Dublin's regulation. We will protect our interests in negotiations. As for Croatia, in almost every case it is not the first entry into EU territory, so we want clear, precise and proportional monitoring of these entrys to protect Croatian interests in this way,” said Plenkov.
The EU Mini Meeting was collected by European Commission President Jean-Claude-Yuncker and 16 member states.
Asked whether Croatia would support the austerity proposal of the migrants' movement, Plenkovic said a balance should be found, as introducing strict controls into an EU member state automatically leads to a chain reaction in other states.
“at this time we talk about formulas for the European Council, which will meet Thursday. We need to find the right balance between what contains European regulations and what can eventually remain at the national level as possible severity. Therefore, we must see to which extent it can go here,” said Plenkovic.
