Anton Noecaj, from the Centre for Jury and Regional Development, says about RTV Dukagjin said the reason for continuing EULEX's work is directly linked to the launch of the Special Court's work.
“The reason why EULEX's mission has been continued mandated for two more years is directly related to the beginning of the work of Special Court”, Anton Noecaj says.
According to him, the failure of local justice institutions in the arrest and trial of persons accused of war crimes would lead EULEX to have the task of arresting people who could be brought up.
“is the EULEX mission, which will take over this part of the bans, arrests and all this preliminary phase, before the trial of persons with war crimes charges” begins, Nocaj said.
Miftarian: Eulex successful, unless there will be new staff
Meanwhile, Ehat Miftaraj from the Kosovo Institute for Justice estimates that a good way for the continuation of EULEX's mandate to be successful is to change staff and bring new people in.
“We think that the only way this mission and this component can be carried out impartially is to bring new personnel who have not been to Kosovo before. We suspect that current personnel will be sufficiently independent as they are familiar with politicians and interest groups in Kosovo”, Ehat Miftaraj has said.
