The Washington Post, quoting unidentified American officials, writes that Chinese hackers have stolen a large amount of confidential data in underwater warfare, including plans for a supersonic submarine launcher.
The attacks, according to the source, took place in January and February.
The hackers have chosen the system of a company working for the Newport Marine Marine Center in Rhode Island.
It is not specified exactly what company this is about, but the New York Times found that among the stolen data is the Sea Dragon project, which is classified as “arm with offensive skills that will be integrated into existing armed systems on existing sea platforms”.
While public details available for the project are very rare, according to US media reports, the Pentagon has spent $300m from 2015 on the Sea Dragon project.
The testing was scheduled for September.
The Washington Post also writes that hackers have stolen plans to develop a supersonic anti-missonic missile, which according to plans should be used at the submarine arsenal by 2020.
