Who was Beg Rizaj who rose to September in Decan today and how he was killed?

Beg Rizaj, was one of the participants and is believed to be organising the “Qumanova” group, which on May 9, 2015, had been waging combat with Macedonian Security Forces.

In this armed conflict, eight police officers from the special unit were killed and four others were injured. However, 10 other members of the armed group lost their lives.

Also killed at the event were Beg Rizaj and Mirsad Ndrecaj, two of the main members of the group. Rizaj was buried in the Glodjan Witnesses' Memorial complex.

In contrast, 31 members of the so-called “Kumanovo Group” remained.

Macedonian authorities had named the event an attack on the constitutional order of the state.

The Skopje Criminal Court had also sentenced 33 members of the Kumanovo group to 746 years in prison. 7 life sentences, 13 people were sentenced to 40 years in prison, 6 persons 20 years in prison, one of the accused was sentenced to 18 years, two to 14 years, and two to 13 years.

The Kosovo government under the direction of Ramush Haradinaj had allocated financial means worth 290m euros for covering expenses for the families of convicts in the “Kumanovo” case.

Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, at the moment of sharing these means, had said each family would receive 10,000 euros.

The Decani municipality today has inaugurated Beg Rizaj's September. Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj was present at her inauguration.

During the organisation for the September discovery of Rizaj, an incident occurred.

Beg Rizaj's brother Aliu, who did not want to allow anyone to discover his brother's September but wanted to do so on his own.

While the media were on one side, they saw only the part when he was negotiating with Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.

Beg Rizaj's other brother, Hakiu, said Ali was upset for his brother and that they have no problem with the country's prime minister.

There was no incident, maybe it was just frustration, it was Ali in the war, it could be boring. No more, the prime minister is our brother, the Haradinaj family, Ramush and Dauti are our brothers”, he said.

Even Decani chairman Bashkim Ramosaj has clarified the incident.

He said there was a conflict between the Rizaj brothers and that the prime minister has intervened to calm the situation.

“refused to participate in the September revelation, that they are three remaining brothers and that one of these brothers has not left the other two brothers to be bad among themselves. The prime minister had to intervene to reconcile them to the person who told you that you had to discover these two hadn't found out that these two were a little more clear. He told the prime minister that you were not to blame, but these two were never after Bang, they weren't at war, and he didn't want to allow the other brothers to participate”, he said.

Later, the prime minister himself clarified. He said his intervention has been in the function of calming the situation, to preserve the image of the freedom fighter.

Today, on the 19th anniversary of Decani's liberation, we commemorated the freedom sacrifice of fighters from all over Albania. On this occasion, some media have speculated that there have been reactions of Beg Rizaj's brother to me. I assure the citizens of Decani and the general public that the dispute had nothing to do with me. My intervention was in effect to calm the situation, to save the image of our freedom fighter”, he wrote.

His September will remain in the center of Decani, funded by his fellow fighters and countrymen. The Decani municipality, however, has divided its location.
