Amsterdam City has chosen to head, Femke Halsema, who is the first woman in this post in all history.
Although other cities in the Netherlands are headed by women, the capital was never led by women.
The 52-year-old nomination should be passed on to the government and signed by the king -- things that are more formalities, reports the BBC.
“For a capital that views itself as emencired, tolerant, progressive and equal for both genders, the absence of a leadership is becoming shameful”, the protest of 45 women most influential in Amsterdam, which also gave way to this event.
However, Halsema's nomination was not welcomed by all. Some say she doesn't have the right experience for this post, and a number of 7,000 and 400 people have signed a petition against her.
