Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department Catherine Cavalec has taken office as assistant secretary in August 2015. In this quality, it is responsible for Russia and the Regional Affairs Office. She used to serve as Director for Russian Affairs in the same office.
Prior to that, she was Deputy Mission Chief and Deputy Permanent Delegation to the US Mission in UNESCO, in Paris (2010-13). In 2009-10, Mrs. Cavalec was the US Deputy Coordinator for Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia.
It served in 2008-09 as director of Conflict Prevention at the Co-ordination Office for Reconstruction and Stabilisation. Duties abroad have included tours in Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Brazil. /now news
