Sandela Roman (19), who was visiting her mother who lived in the Canadian province of British Columbia, decided on May 21st to go to a beach resort near the American border in the evening.
She told Canadian media that two American border police officials had approached her, who arrested her because of her entry into federal state territory Washington.
One of them told me I crossed the border illegally and told him I didn't plan on doing that. I thought they'd warn me or eventually they'd fine me, but I ended up in jail”, Roman told Radio Canada. It shows that there were many people from Africa and other countries in the immigrant prison because of illegal border crossing
Roman returned back to Canada after 15 days of being in prison, more precisely on June 6th, while officials from both states have declined to comment on her case.
An American border police official confirmed that any person crossing the border outside the usual roads would end up in prison, and that is also true of those who have wrongly crossed the border.
