Special Speaker expects Smith to fulfil mandate

Specialised Chambers Speaker Ekaterina Trendafilova has spoken about the appointment of the new Specialised Prosecutor.

This happened after Jack Smith was appointed to the post of Specialised Prosecutor in accordance with the Specialised Chambers Law and the Special Prosecutor's Office.

The chairman of the Specialised Court Chambers, Ekaterina Trendafilova, said she would serve for fulfillment of the mandate of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office.

I'm offering Mr. “Smith, my sincere commendation on the occasion of his appointment and I am confident that his long-standing experience in the field of investigation and prosecution, both in the United States and internationally, will serve as the fulfilling mandate of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office. I will have the pleasure of developing productive working relationships with Mr. Smith and I am confident that the Specialised Prosecutor's Office will make further progress in terms of meeting its” mandate, she said, broadcast KTV.

Mayor Trendafilova also expressed gratitude for Mr. Kwai Hong Ip, the specialised deputy prosecutor, who already made possible the continuation of the work in the Specialised Prosecutor's Office.

Smith will be the successor of David Schwarzman, the first specialised prosecutor, earlier even Chief Prosecutor of the Special Investigative Task Force, who stepped down on March 31st when his appointment as US Foreign Service official expired.

It's an honor and satisfaction to be offered this challenge, and I'm willing to take the investigation further”, Smith said.

Currently, Smith is deputy chairman and head of the US Hospital Corporation's lawsuit section, the largest nongovernmental health organisation in the United States, a post he has had since September 2017.
