Bulgaria's presidency in the European Union has confirmed Kosovo's participation in Sam, but have refused to answer whether the Republic of Kosovo will have representation with state symbols.

Kosovo's “Partnership will be in line with the requirements of protocol”, the Bulgarian Presidency's spokeswoman for the EU, Genoeva Chervenakova, has said briefly about Radio Free Europe.

Days ago, Spain declared it would not participate in the Sofia Summit in the event Kosovo is represented as a state. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy warned that he would not sit at the same table at which the president of Kosovo sits.

Despite these statements, the Bulgarian presidency, currently leading the European Union, has confirmed the Spanish prime minister's participation.

Spain's “prime minister will arrive tomorrow in Bulgaria”, Chervenakova has declared.

However, Bulgarian officials have been reluctant to give more details as far as participation in the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's summit is concerned, as reported by the media in Spain, he will only attend a dinner with European leaders the day before the summit and then return to his country.

The Sofia summit is aimed at creating new energy between the Western Balkans and the European Union.

According to the European Union, within this summit it will be aimed at re-opening the EU's commitment to Western Balkan partners, as well as strengthening ties between the EU and the Western Balkans in infrastructure, digitally and humanly.

The participating countries will discuss opportunities to work together to address common challenges, such as security, migration, geopolitical developments and good neighbourly relations.
