71 Kosovo Parliament deputies on Friday gave the vote to join the Constitutional Court to a person sentenced by the tribunal.
Of the two judges who received enough votes to become members of the Constitutional Court, one is Radomir Laban from the Serb community, which is turning out to have a criminal past, KTV reports.
Radomir Laban is alleged to have been sentenced since 2012, by the Constitutional Court in Belgrade as part of a criminal group that had smuggled textiles, white technicians, cigarettes, alcohol, etc.
The group, called “Cariska Mafija”, comprised of 17 people, according to Serbian media, was arrested in 2006.
However, the Commission, which selected the proposed names and proceeded with Radomir Laban's name for the Assembly, is leaving, having no information about his past.
Vetevendosje MP Albulen Haxhiu, who was part of the commission, says that very recently she was informed of Laban's past. But her attempts and her calls not to vote on that name were unsuccessful.
KTV has attempted to contact other members of the Commission who submitted Radomir Laban's name to vote as a proposal to be part of the Assembly, but none of them have responded to KTV's calls.
Part of this commission was Nehat Idrizi from the KDR, Ombudsman Hilmi Jashari, while political parties Armendi Zemaj from the LDK, Bilal Sheriff from the Initiative, Ahmet Isufi from the AAK and Safete Hadrjeljaj, who replaced Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli.
But, Haxhiu says the coalition parties had agreed to vote on Radomir Laban's name.
Veton Elshani from the office for international co-operation under the Kosovo Police over the telephone has said he cannot confirm whether Radomir Laban is wanted through Interpol, furthermore, Elshani has said that Kosovo Police are not entitled to plead for a person who is wanted by another state.
Information about this case could not even provide Special Prosecutor Sevdije Morina. Contacted by KTV, Morina has said there is no information about Radomir Laban and that this remains verified during the following days.
KTV has also tried to contact Radomir Laban, but this has been impossible.
In photos that circulate on the internet, Radomir Laban is seen as accompanied by Constitutional Court Deputy Chairman Ivan Cukalofovic, who was also part of the commission that selected Radomir Laban's name.
The Kosovo Assembly on Friday in the first vote succeeded in selecting two Constitutional Court judges. While the second round of voting failed, neither of the proposed Albanian names received enough votes.
