He comes to this post after former prosecutor, David Schwendiman, retires.
As stated unofficially by Serbian media, which are not called to any official source, he has called for a one-year term to get acquainted with procedures and subjects that the Special Court handles.
The new Special Prosecutor, Smith, has an experience in American trial while serving in Sudan.
The Special Court, which will have headquarters at The Hague, is founded for the trial of crimes committed between 1998 and 2000 by the Kosovo Liberation Army.
