Russian opposition leader Alexei Navajo has been arrested during his organised protests, on the eve of Vladimir Putin's oath as president. With slogans “Russia saw Putin” or “Down to Care”, oppositions around Russia have joined to protest Putin's fourth term as president of the country.
On the eve of Vladimir Putin's inauguration in his fourth presidential mandate, the opposition is holding a series of protests around Russia.
Alexei Navajo, who was banned from running in the March elections, is organising these protests. But he was arrested by police just arrived at the Moscow rally. According to reports, the opposition leader has been forced to stay at a secret location Friday evening to attend the rally.
Along with Navajo, dozens of other people around the country have been arrested by authorities, who have not approved protests in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Protesters gathered at Pushkin Square in the capital, shouting slogans such as “Down here Carei” and “Russia saw Putin”.
We remember that Vladimir Putin was re-elected president with more than 76% of the vote, marking his best election outcome. But the opposition and some international observers reported widespread irregularities at the polls.
