For 18 years, Michelle Lyon has seen hundreds of executions in Texas. Texas is otherwise known as the country that has performed most US executions.
It shows how these murders have taken effect in her life, but it is something her job asks her to do. Lyon, she's been working as a journalist for over 12 years, and spokeswoman at the Department of Criminal Justice in Texas, and as part of her work, she has to testify to any execution conducted in Texas, broadcast Koha.net.
Between 2000 and 2012, Lyons has seen almost 300 men and women being executed.
For the first execution she had seen, she reported when she was only 22. The first murder was seen in a prison where two men had been stabbed.
I was young and bold. I found them appropriate sentences for certain crimes that the X persons committed. I gave many thoughts to my emotions that I had played with. Everything about me was black and white”, she said, following the BBC.
Since 1924, every execution in the country has occurred in a small town east of Texas, Huntsville. There are seven prisons, including a building that houses people in the death chamber.
