Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated he will withdraw after his mandate is completed in 2024. Putin will do this to respect the constitution, which prohibits holding the president's position for more than two consecutive terms.
Putin has issued this statement during an economic forum held at St Petersburg.
Reuters points out that this does not mean Putin will not return again after six years.
Vladimir Putin held two mandates of six years before leaving in 2008, when he became prime minister for four years before the presidency was returned. He can do the same in 2024, and he returns to the presidency again, follows Kosovas.
In 2014, Putin will be the longest-time Russian leader in power, from the time of Joseph Stalin, who led the Soviet Union from 1929 to his death in 1953.
