Municipal authorities in the north are holding the opening of the bridge.

The main bridge in Mitrovica, still out of place, as well as the work on the bridge re-viralism has long been completed. Northern Mitrovica municipality officials have declined to talk about the issue, while the EU office that has monitored this process says the works are continuing.

Works on the main bridge of the town of Mitrovica have ended months ago. However, the bridge is not open for circulation. Residents who live in southern Mitrovica say that to circulate by car across the city, they use alternative roads.

“I don't know why the work is being extended, I don't like it at all compared to the work a southern part or Pristina Vushtrri. It actually smells and kids can't play. Again this will be changed”, he said away.

Municipal authorities in the north, in recent days, are removing part of the square-stone paved road. All this, to make it appear that the work is not finished. But Serbian citizens say it is being done to launder money.

Meanwhile, South Mitrovica municipality Deputy Chairman Faruk Mujka says municipal authorities in northern Mitrovica are holding the bridge's opening hostage.

This is being done in order to negotiate administrative borders once again, Mujka says.

The administrative borders are also defined with the Ahtisaari package, but also with the Kosovo Constitution, and four villages in northern Mitrovica are known belong to the southern municipality. The initiative of Rakiqi and Serbian structures is to bring the border down to the Iber Riverbed and in a way be even a natural and much easier border to manage under the upcoming Serbian Communist Association Project”.

No Serbian officials in the Northern Town have been willing to respond or even co-operate on the issue.

While the EU office in Kosovo says “work on the bridge and in that part is continuing and is now entering the final phase. The EU believes this will end immediately”.
