The Devati from Varanas in northern India reportedly had died in the hospital in January of this year, but her six children had told her neighbors that she is still alive but that she is constantly losing consciousness.
But their lies were revealed when neighbors began to complain about the bad smell. So the police phoned and broke in and were shocked to see the decaying body in the bedroom.
They also found different chemicals to keep the body fresh, but apparently the deceased's child had not known how to use it since the corpse was decomposing.
The five boys and her daughter are accused of fraud, having kept the corpse at home to take the monthly pension of 438 pounds.
Dev was a widow who lived with her six children since the death of her husband. She enjoyed privileges because her husband was a high official in customs.
