Now two weeks in Albania, allegations have been raised that flour imported from Kosovo has lower amounts of proteins than allowed.
Albania's National Food Authority has blocked 35 tonnes of flour from Kosovo companies, as it is suspected that low levels of protein are bought at cheaper prices in Kosovo and sold in Albania at a higher price, where it is used for bread production.
But this is being rejected by institutions in Kosovo.
From the Kosovo Mills Association say that companies in Albania are doing it in order not to compete in their market from Kosovo.
Muhamet Fariz said they have done analysis and the level of proteins is the same in both Kosovo and Albania. But at the Food and Veterina Agency, they say Kosovo does not have a regulation that determines the limits of proteins in flour. Last year, flour imported to Kosovo from Serbia had 24mkg of flour. While only early this year, according to Dogana, 2.6kg of flour have been imported from Serbia to Kosovo.
