Kosovo launches asylum procedures for X) witness: My Life Threatened in Albania

Kosovo authorities have initiated asylum procedures for Albert Veliun, from Albania, known differently and such as “Witness X” ”, the man who claimed to have talked with Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj's brother, to ensure his passage to Italy of a quantity of marijuana. Veliu with her son was [...]
Veliu, together with her son, was detained a few days ago by police authorities in Kosovo, under suspicion that he had entered its territory illegally.
Sources from the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs told Voice of America that Veliu has sought asylum with the motive that in Albania he is threatened with life.
The same sources explained that “would consult with Albania's authorities” before any decision, while saying that “will be respected all procedures for asylum”.
Veliu, a former convicted of drug trafficking, publicly admitted that the voice made public wiretapping by the Democratic Party was his, but statements in the case were contradictory.
He denied knowing that the conversation was being filed, but then journalist Jethmir Olldashi, the wiretap as part of a journalistic investigation, indicated that it had been himself who had put the surveillance device to Veliu.
Agron Xhafaj, brother of the interior minister, has flatly rejected the possibility of having held any conversation with Veliun. The prosecution has already made it known that audio material has been sent for expertise in a laboratory outside Albania.
On weekends, Minister Xhafaj claimed he was willing to assume any legal, political and moral responsibilities, including leaving the post, if it proved that in the audio footage, his brother's voice would result.
If proven otherwise, then Lulzim Basha must resign and face the law. Ask him: Is he ready for this challenge?
The opposition has been demanding the departure of the interior minister, who is accused of giving protection to his brother.
The issue was caused by the protest she held Saturday in Tirana, where strong moments of tension were recorded between manifesters and police near the interior ministry. The opposition has declared that for the “resignation of the interior minister, it is a non-negotiable matter”.
