Singapore, Bangladesh, Madagascar, and Barbados are the last five states that have accepted Kosovo's independence since early 2016. The process of recognition, which has stalled in recent years, according to the opposition, is the result of the failure of institutions.
For Vetevendosje MP Albulen Haxhiu, the state needs to have a special lobby strategy in order to increase the number of recognitions.
What the state of Kosovo needs to do is to have a clear strategy of how we see it in foreign policy, and certainly lobbies that are done in countries that have not recognised Kosovo's independence, to be done by people who have integrity and professionalism in this direction”, Haxhiu stressed.
And university professor and political analyst Behlul Beqaj, speaking of recognitions, told public television that even the continued degradation of the state is affecting the slowdown in the process of recognition, while, according to him, this process is more than assessing the non-work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The special “Rol has disabilities, nonprofessionality and concrete failure of the Foreign Ministry, which, first of all, has the obligation to attract friends and states, which are willing to recognise Kosovo and continue bilatheral or multilatheral co-operation”, stated Professor Belul Beqaj.
Public television has also requested a comment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has also asked him whether they have a special strategy for increasing the number of recognitions, but for days, it has not been answered by this minister.
In addition to the small number of recognitions, which the state is coming to in recent years, Kosovo is also facing the constant pressure Serbia is putting on different states to reject independence or even withdraw recognition. Serbia's state leaders often claim that different states have drawn recognition. But, according to Kosovo authorities, based on international law, there is not the appeal of recognition, but only the freezing of interstate relations.
