Kosovo applies for observer member position in Organisation for Islamic Co-operation

The Kosovo government has applied for the position of observer member in the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation. Behgjet Pacolli's adviser, Jethlir Zyberaj, has made this known. The state of Kosovo has said it is aimed at empowering its position in each important international organisation. After membership in Francophony as an observer state, Kosovo aims to gain status [...]

After membership in Francophony as an observer state, Kosovo aims to gain such status in the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation with the aim of deepening co-operation with member states and access to funds for economic, infrastructure and educational development”, Zyberaj has said.

During the conference on Islamic Co-operation, Canada was also presented with the highest level. So, raising this level of Kosovo's relations with the OBI is meant to process Kosovo's position as it did in Francophony, and the application will occur at the moment when internal procedures have been followed, he added.

Zuberaj has said that Kosovo aims to participate actively in all regional organisations.

“S recently such participation, Minister Pacolli had come to Komenweek in London, and is targeted at such levels”, he added.

But, someone in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is rejecting any Kosovo membership in the UN.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Gjergj Dedaj has rejected the idea of Kosovo's membership in OBI.

According to MPJA official, the Ramush Haradinaj-led government is trying to join OBI.

“The Kosovo Government's efforts for Kosovo's membership in the Islamic World Organisation (OBI), a hasty and harmful step that endangers, violates and neglects the Euro-Atlantic persview of the Republic of Kosovo”, Dedaj wrote, the Express newspaper.

OBI numbers 57 member states, most of which are countries with Islamic states, and some extend to the Middle East, North, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South America. The official languages of OKI are Arabic, English and French. This organization is presented as the general representative of Islamic outlooks in the world. /Express/
