The mission of the Organisation for Security and European Co-operation (OSBE) in Kosovo has called on Kosovo justice authorities to step up efforts to whitewash cases of journalists who have been kidnapped, killed or disappeared during or after the war period in Kosovo.

In the State Chief Prosecutor, say that by March 2017, State Prosecutor Alexander Lumezi has appointed a prosecutor-ordinator for cases of rowing or other criminal acts committed to journalists.

Chief State Prosecutor Merita Gashi's adviser told Radio Free Europe, that even in terms of cases of murder or disappearance of wartime journalists, prosecutors are working at their dawn.

For all cases, including those during the war even after the war, the prosecution is working and investigating intensively that these cases become white as soon as we can, Gashi said.

According to mission information The SEU, there are 15 Albanian and Serbian journalists who have been killed, kidnapped or disappeared, OSCE spokesman in Pristina told Radio Free Europe Senad Shabovic.

What we're doing is to turn a little attention to the opinion on this subject so that it can be understood as much about their fate, so that they can resume some investigations and that the opinion in general can be reported on. We are working on this issue for a while, while more intensively we have worked during 2017 and plan to continue this year” again, Shabovic said.

Among the journalists considered killed, kidnapped or missing are: Africa Maliqi (gazeta Buyuk), Enver Maloku (Kosovo Information Centre QIK, killed in 1999, Shefki Popova (Riveteta), killed in September 2000), Xhemajl Mustafa (killed in 2000), Bekim Kastrati (The World Today, killed in October 2001), Bardil Ajjet (gazhet World Today), Krist Gegaj (Radio Television of Pristina RTP), Shaban Hoti (Russian television) Marjan Melonashi (Radio Pristina), Djuro Slavuj (Radio Pristina, disappeared in 1998), Ranko Pristina (Pristina), in 1998, Kqkorezboev (Russian, 2008), Croatia's Stasavjetr in May 1999, Simkarevirevirevirevrev, Stojrevirevirev, Skorev, in 1999 (Duktt, Stukreyreyrey, 1999) were found in September

Shabovic says that many of the subjects of these cases, if the investigation has begun, were initially in the hands of the United Nations or UNMIK mission, and then in the hands of the European Union mission EULEX, and today are in the hands of the Kosovo judiciary. According to him, the will and desire in Kosovo's prosecution exists to step up efforts in connection with ongoing investigations.

Petit Colak from the Kosovo Journalists' Association told Radio Free Europe that the Association consistently calls on justice mechanisms to investigate and issue a verdict on cases. He stressed that it is time for families of journalists killed to know the fate of their loved ones.

For our colleagues at the time, both before and during the war that were killed, there must be a verdict because it's been a long time, and on the other hand, we have compiled a document and sent it to the European Federation of Journalists, where we have asked for their support to begin investigations. Simply put pressure on state institutions to start investigating and encourage people to talk about these cases”, Colak said.

Meanwhile, Budimir Nessic, who speaks on behalf of journalists from Serbia to Kosovo, says that in addition to one case -- that of Shaban Hoti's murder -- all other cases have remained unlightened. According to him, it is unknown whether investigations are under way about these cases.

The “is clear that there is neither will nor desire of institutions, nor those of Kosovo or international ones to solve these cases”, he stressed.

The problem lies more on the security system. U n NMIC, said conditionally, conducted superficial investigations at the beginning, what is proven even in the UN Council of Counseling for Human Rights report saying that in some cases U. NMIC, only after a few years, has it opened and then closed the investigation without questioning the evental witnesses”, Nessic said.

Such a situation, he underlined, has brought about the situation when the responsibility is now laid out as much on one international mission as on another, while expressing doubts that Kosovo institutions have the will to handle these cases.

Nessic, along with his colleagues on Tuesday seven times, placed the memorial plaque at the site where journalists' colleagues, Djuro Slavouj, and Ranko Pereniq, located between Rahovec and Hoça the Great.

It is the sixth time, says Nessic, that someone destroys this plaque and blames institutions that are failing to secure it or to find out who is hurting it.

According to him, O The SEU is one of the only international organisations interested in resolving these cases.

O Mission Chief The SEU in Kosovo, Ambassador Ian Braathu, said on Tuesday that this organisation would support increased efforts to find perpetrators against journalists in the country.
