Kosovo, like other states tomorrow, will mark International Labor Day, May 1st, or as the day is known when workers seek rights, freedoms and better working and living conditions.
This day in Kosovo is within the framework of official holidays, where in most cases it is marked by resting, while another part marks it by celebrating with family and friends.
But, during tomorrow's day, the Labour Inspectorate under the Ministry of Labour and Social Management has seen it cease and no inspection of how much the Law for Official Festival is being implemented.
Labour Chief Inspector Basri Ibrahimi told KALLXO.com that inspectors need to have holiday holidays on International Labor Day on May 1st.
We don't have to do an inspection. Even inspectors need rest, as do others who need a”, Ibrahim said.
Asked whether it was possible for one of the inspectors to be in custody during the holiday, since compensation for employees on official holidays is determined by the Labour Law, Ibrahim said this is a day off for those who want to rest.
For what to come out tomorrow specifically. This is a day for those who work hard. It's an official party, but nobody stops work. Even tomorrow, they can work as well as the specific days they are, that they must be compensated according to the Labour Law and under the Law for Official Festival. It is not forbidden to work”, Ibrahim said.
With the Labour Law in Kosovo, those in working relations have a right to material compensation and rest days if they have worked on official holiday days.
Article 56, paragraph 1 of the Labour Law says that “for work longer than full working hours, as well as for work on the days of the state holidays and for the night's work, the employee has a right to additional wages, in accordance with this law, the Kolective Count and the Job Treaty”.
In the event of material non-compliance, this Law at Article 56 points 4 also envisions that the employee could ask the employer for additional pay from paragraph 2. This article's, compensation toʹi is done on holiday”.
Chief Inspector Ibrahim said that even if they wanted to conduct inspections, it would be impossible to do so because of the small number of inspectors in this institution.
We can't even inspect all the companies that had to work tomorrow. You know we don't have enough inspectors. With a thousand inspectors not able to inspect everything, so there is no particular reason, it's like other days except that additional payment should be made for every employee working”, Ibrahim said.
While during the day, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Albena Resitaj, has announced citizens that if they burn tires for May 1st, they will be fined by 100 euros due to the major consequences for their burning environment.
