“We are afraid that creating association would create internal divisions. We do not want the association to be a protracted hand of Serbia. Bilateral recognition is the cornerstone of normalisation of relations with Serbia”, Hoxhaj stressed in a discussion organised by the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) on the subject “What is the future of Kosovo relations Serbia”.
Part of this discussion was the president of Serbia's Liberal Party, Cedomir Jovanovic, who said he has supported Kosovo's independence since 2004, four years before it was declared.
Enver Hoxhaj also stressed that one of the circumstances we should take into account in the dialogue with Serbia is the global context.
“Western partners of the region have an interest in resolving Macedonia's name issue with Greece and the question of dialogue with Serbia, but Russia does not have this interest”, Hoxhaj said.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoxhaj argued that Kosovo's membership in the United Nations Organisation (OKB) is not in Serbia's hands.
“But to think that Serbia will be a concession for Kosovo to be a member of the UN, this is not a charter that is in Vuciki's hand, this letter is in the hands of others, we have the mutual recognition card”, Hoxhaj said during the discussion organised by KDI.
Hoxhaj further said Kosovo and Serbia should reach a legally binding agreement and that Serbia cannot be an EU member without recognising Kosovo.
