A war zone is not like in movies, where the reserve team enters with a helicopter to evacuate the wounded soldier, moving him towards a security camp. In real life, “you are the sum of your life sum”, says a veteran Syrian fighter for “DW”. When he was hit by a missile earlier this year, it took almost 15 hours until a unit had evacuated him west of Syria.
A 21-year-old named Martin, German citizen who joined the international Kurdish militia division YPG, says he has met with Americans, Spanish, Australians, British and even Chinese who have also joined the Kurdish group.
At least four of them have died since joining the group in the war in Syria. He participates in this war for nine months, reports “DW” Transmission Perixopi.
The Kurdish group except that it fights against the Islamic State, it is currently waging wars even against Turkish military forces.
Martin is already a veteran warrior, where he has participated in many battles against members of the Islamic State in Raqqa. Before he joined this group, he did not know much about the complications of many combat groups that kill each other.
He relates the moment he made the decision to join the Kurdish group. I was an idiot who lied to my parents about where I was going. I couldn't tell them: I'm going to Syria to fight. I'll see you around. Before heading toward Syria, he had lied to his parents that his journey means joining a humanitarian organization that actually proved to be the opposite of what his family expected.
He says he has been motivated by several devastating videos published by the IS, as well as by listening to various stories of Syrian refugees who had taken refuge in Germany during 2014.
More than 900 Germans are said to have travelled to Syria to join the Kurdish group./Periscopi/
