Earth's atmosphere carbon dioxide levels reach the highest level of 800 thousand years

In April, CO2's concentration in the atmosphere exceeded an average of 410 parts per million (ppm) throughout the month, according to readings by the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii.

This is the first time in the history of observatory readings that an average monthly average has exceeded that level.
Oceanography's Scripps institution said that prior to the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide levels do not exceed 300ppm in the last 800,000 years.

The Keeling Kurbul, which represents the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, shows a steady increase in CO2 levels in the atmosphere for decades.

Scientists have warned that carbon dioxide levels are passing a threshold that could lead to global warming beyond the level of “sygurt” identified by the international community, boosting an increase in sea levels.

The carbon dioxide is the only major greenhouse gas generated by human activities, including burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil, making cement and deforestation.

It remains in the atmosphere for tens of thousands of years, catching heat from solar radiation and promoting climate change.
The latest reading shows a 30 percent increase in carbon dioxide concentration in the global atmosphere since the census began in 1958. The first measurement was recorded as 315ppm.

The concentration of carbon dioxide exceeded 400ppm for the first time in 2013.

Before 1800, an average CO2 atmospheric CO2, which shows the effect of human emissions since the industrial revolution.

Scientists believe that the world has never experienced an increase in CO2 levels as fast or intense as this.

Last year, the World Meteorology Organization said: “Today's concentration of CO2 of about 400ppm exceeds the natural diversity seen in hundreds of thousands of years”.

Ralph Keelling, director of CO2's programme at the Scripps Oceanography Institute, which monitors readings, told The Washington Post that CO2's concentration rate in the atmosphere is growing faster in the last decade than in the 2000s.

After the news of Mauna Loa's Observatory, climate scientist Katharina Hayhoe wrote: “As a scientist, what worries me most is that this ongoing growth means that we are moving forward with an unprecedented experiment with our planet, the only home we have. ”

Last time, carbon dioxide levels reached 400ppm 3-5 million years ago, in the Pliocen era.
