In their response to Indexline, it is known that there are currently 41 requests for autopsy.
“Foundation Procurory in Pec currently has about 41 calls for autopsy, which are expected for arrival. A report on the autopsy is expected one year to two years”, the prosecution's response reported.
All these delays are being made because of the labs that conduct these tests, which need to be advanced.
Legal Medicine Department Director Education Gerjaliu for Indexline has said there are many cases, the results of the autopsys awaiting them.
“There are cases of autopsy pending results. I don't know exactly, but there are many cases. That's because we're dealing with new substances that are unknown to the tools we possess”, he said.
Gerjaliu has added that their demand is for the laboratory to be advanced through EU experts because they need professional assistance.
We're in the phase of building the capacity of the toxicology lab, which has started with the IPA I and therefore we need professional assistance. We won the IPA II project. Our demand is focused on this laboratory being advanced through EU experts under the IPA II” project, and added Gerjaliu further.
Unlike the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pec, who is expected up to two years for a result of the autopsy, in Gjakova's, is expected to wait two and many months.
However, they explain that there are cases when prosecutors issue another request urgently.
“on P.Th. in Gjakova, for 2018 so far we have only one case of the prosecution's expected autopsy. 22.03.2018, which we have not yet received from the Law Medicine Institute”, is said to be in their responses.
The Department of Legal Medicine functions within the Ministry of Justice and performs autopsys on cases that law agencies list as suspicious cases.
