For five days in a row, the police, the Kosovo Security Force and other emergency mechanisms have continued the search for two police officers missing after the official car accident at Elez's Kanez's O'Kakanic magistrate, who are believed to have fallen into the river Lepenc.
So far, despite research, two missing police officers have not been found.
At the request of Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, the search was done by authorities in Macedonia, as allegations were that the river flow has been able to transport police troops to the neighbouring state of Kosovo.
Meanwhile, investigations into this case are being carried out by the Kosovo Prosecutor.
Ferizaj's chief prosecutor, Shukri Jashari, told Radio Free Europe that investigations are continuing and that related to this case some persons in witness quality have been interviewed.
The procedure since the accident is conducting investigations. As soon as we got the information on June 28th, we started investigating and they're continuing. There were persons interviewed in witness quality. The warrant has been issued for the examination of the official car that the police were involved in, but we have not yet accepted any reports from experts. It means the research is continuing and something concrete still does not have”, says Jashar.
The missing police case has also raised debate at Thursday's session in the Kosovo Assembly.
MP Rexhep Selimi from the opposition party's ranks, the Vetevendosje Movement, has criticised competent institutions for lack of a necessary co-ordination over the search of two missing policemen.
We seek from security and justice bodies to carry out their duty and work with professionalism and responsibility, not to hide anything, and to leave nothing undiscovered about the circumstances of the accident and disappearance of the two Kosovo police officers. But, so far, police troops have not been found with all the ongoing research, there is a lack of co-ordination among factors that are willing to help with professional work in search of”, Selimi said.
Meanwhile, Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has countered MP Selimi, saying the search for missing police officers has co-ordination.
The truth is that there are coordinates there and there is a willingness to accept any support from either divers or volunteers”, Haradinaj has said.
Kosovo Police spokesman for the Ferizaj region Agim Gashi told Radio Free Europe that the search for missing police officers has been co-ordinated with all emergency mechanisms since the accident occurred.
With information about the police accident on June 28th, all police units have gone to the scene, placing evidence about the accident. To date, all relevant Kosovo Police units have been engaged, including co-ordination with all responsible institutions, prosecutors, emergency units, KSF and various volunteer teams. But, unfortunately, so far it has not been achieved to find the officers who had been shot at”, Gashi has announced.
Since the founding of the Kosovo Police 18 years ago, 17 members of it have lost their lives at home. Police officers in Kosovo continue to work without health insurance and life insurance.
MPs during the hearing have laid out urgent need for life insurance for Kosovo police and all security and emergency institutions officials.
