About 700 thousand pieces of tobacco or 35 thousand packs of cigarettes have been occupied during the day without banners from Kosovo Customs.

The value of this amount amounts to 39 thousand euros.

According to allegations, this amount of tobacco has entered Kosovo through secondary roads from North Mitrovica, KTV reports.

According to Customs data, cigarette smuggling has marked promotions.

During 2017 alone, 10 tons of tobacco and 5 processing machines were caught until 9 tons were occupied in 2016.

The reason for the increase in smuggling, according to the Association of Tobacco Importers, is the high value of excises.

In the Ministry of Finance, they say that increasing the value of excise value is the result of signing the calendar agreement for increased excise values for luxury products year-on-year.

However, according to Finance Minister Lulzim Rafuna's adviser, this agreement has not been implemented in the last year in other states.

The ministry argued the excise increase in order to reduce tobacco users. Such an act, besides filling the budget, has had no effect on this tobacco user habit.

The border points where tobacco is mostly smuggled are North Mitrovica and Peja's Jabllanica.
