Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister, Ekaterina Zaharieva, has stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe that the name Republic of Macedonia of Ilinden is acceptable to Bulgaria, referring to the new name Macedonia may have following the name dispute with Greece.
According to her, this name shows that states have a common past.
“The Republic of Macedonia of Ilinden means to me that they accept that we have history and the past in common, because this is a very important part of Bulgarian history, it's a very important moment even for them”, she has said.
Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has announced that on Friday he will hold a meeting with party leaders and the president to discuss the proposal that could be acceptable for Macedonia and Greece.
Ilinden's rebellion took place in 1903 against the Ottoman Empire.
