“The New York Times” and “The New Yorker” have jointly won the “Pulitzer” award for best public service during this Monday, for the discovery of Harvey Weinstein scandal, amid reports that even galvanized the “ #With Too” on social networks, giving national importance to sexual harassment at the workplace.
“The Times” and “The Washington Post” also won the Best National Reporting Award for coverage of Russia's intervention in the 2016 presidential elections, as well as contacts between the leaders of President Trump's campaign and Russian officials.
“The Press Democrat”, a medium of Santa Rosa in California, won the “Pulitzer” award for reporting the latest news, on the events of the massive fires that invaded and burned out entire areas of California during last fall, leaving 44 people dead and destroying thousands of homes.
“The Pulitzers”, the most prestigious prices of US journalism, reflects thus a year filled with ruthless news and unprecedented challenges for American media, while Trump has repeatedly attacked the reports of “false reports” and has called journalists “enemies of the people”.
The prices “Pulitzers” were announced in the afternoon of this Monday by Columbia University, which manages these estimates. This is the 102nd year of competition founded by a newspaper publisher, Joseph Pulitzer. The winners of the best public service receive gold medals, while others receive a previously converted price of $15,000 each.
The total applications have been 2,400, while only 21 projects resulted in the winner in the competition held in New York City. The manager of “Pulizers”, Dana Canedy, was the one who announced the winner's list in 2018.
