Subheader The PDK once Deputy Culture Minister Rexhep Hoti expects that other names will be introduced in the race for the first party.
The “of course we expect that within the Democratic Party there will be other contestants not only the current chairman, and that's one of the goals. The mayor will open the race before his mandate passes and he will be back in the race”, Hoti said.
Hoti said it is too early to name names but that the Party has candidates worthy of entry.
“Many are early for names, but I can tell you that there are a number of people in the Democratic Party of Kosovo who have known and unknown names that may be worthy candidates for competition in the race for party chairman”, he said.
Hoti has not provided details as to when the party convention will be held, but according to him the same may last until spring next year. He says these preparations are going up and down the ladder.
“We have begun elections at the youth forum and the woman's, and then we will move on to the party's share with its broad structure, which means elections can be completed by spring. Next year's spring. The elections have already begun, but there are more complicated procedures, structure consolidation, and the party's overall process is a process that will go down a scale-scale”, Hoti tells Express.
In 2016, Kadri Wessel was elected chairman of The PDK, earlier at its helm for many years, had been Hashim Thaci. Thaci has publicly declared that he will no longer run for PDK chairman or prime minister. While, Wessel is also targeting the party's second mandate.
Kadri Veselini, although he had tried to join the race for prime minister, had stepped down, leaving the country to Ramush Haradinaj during the coalition's formation PAN in last June's parliamentary elections.
However, so far numerous PDK officials have declined to discuss the issue of domestic elections. So far no one has been declared to challenge Wessel, which is happening in other parties.
Wessel had taken over PDK leadership from Hashim Thaci, who is president of the Republic. While leading the PDK, Wessel has faced two losses. He has lost his primatism as the first party and lost several important municipalities in local elections. For these losses, no one has demanded resignations until the ambition has shown to be further at the helm of the PDK.
The PDK has been in power since 2007, when the first party had emerged.
