There have been more than two decades since I worked with Richard Holbrocke and our team to negotiate the end of the war in Bosnia. NATO would later stop Serbia's ethnic cleansing in Kosovo”, writes Clark, broadcast Periscopi.
“Today, three Western Balkan countries (Croatia, Albania and Slovenia) have become NATO members. Croatia and Slovenia have become members of the European Union. Kosovo is now an independent state. Most Americans and Europeans have realized that now conflict and brutality as a problem have been solved”, he writes.
Unfortunately, this is far from true. A mixture of poor governments, economic stagnation, poor democracy in institutions has given a small group a chance to recruit violent jihadists.
While the United States and Europe are sleeping, other powers are taking notes”, writes Clark.
He writes that Russia, China and Turkey are watching the Balkans and are influencing their policies in this country./Periscopi/
