A street in Pristina's “Mati 117x1> has been changed by the name three times in five years. Historian John Berisha, in an interview for the newspaper “Koha Ditore”, such a practice calls it harmful.
According to him, naming roads mainly with heroes from the last war is normal but not normal, according to him, the haste to decide names without a physical analysis, damaging even the very credibility of names. He says lists of names are dominated by names of commanders, but not soldiers.
It calls the elimination of names from the history of World War II or National Liberation War wrong. In this context Berisha thinks the historical contribution of all generations should be taken into account, but not the new history to dominate the old.
The appointment of streets with living names, according to Berisha, produces countereffectives. He opposes such a practice, naming such approach totalitarian.
Historian Berisha says the biggest clashes for road appointments occur in villages, where it highlights the tribal and tribal character of a part of Kosovo society. Among other things, Berisha says Kosovo is neither immune to the phenomenon of writing history through street names.
