The unfinished parts of the Nation Road are built this year

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Damian Gjiknuri, accompanied by the director of the Albanian Road Authority, Africa, remained, inspected the open construction site in Kukes on one of the bridges which are being tested.

Gjiknuri said this segment of the highway was left unfinished for many years becoming a source of accidents.

Let's say that within this year, this section of the highway, from Kukes to the border, is completely finished. That is also to deliver a message that the Albanian government has paid much attention to this important road axis. An axis that has received a lot of Albanian money but is unfortunately not over. We want to end up as we want to maintain this asset. All this initiative that was undertaken in connection with the concession of this road has been aimed at managing this infrastructure, signaling the necessary signal, necessary reinforcements, so that this highway can be managed properly, otherwise this valuable asset, a bit over the years, would lose”, Gjichnuri said.

Furthermore, Minister Gjiknuri stopped at negotiations that are under way with the concession and with the local Kukes County communities on the issue of the transition fee.

“We are negotiating with the concessionist but also consulting the population to find a solution to a reduced fee for residents of these areas, especially for public transportation and citizens who most frequently use the Kukes-Tirana road. On the other hand, I mean, we've even started identifying all the tools that are being taken to Kukes. We're making comparisons with residents who are part of this community and who own these tools so that that the face of people affected by this concession can be treated and living in the Kukes County. It's a process well started and I believe within a very short period, before once again the functioning of Toll's payments, we'll have a solution. I believe it will be very acceptable, but it doesn't affect the effectiveness of the contract, it doesn't affect the management of the contract for the management of this”, Gjiknuri concluded.
